Contact
If you want to contact me (hiring me is a great idea, at least from
my perspective), the best way is probably e-mail. Try "magic" followed
by "@" and then "dr-hato.se"
Hiring
I am happy to do magic almost anywhere, anytime, and in front of
anyone. If it interferes with my actual job, it may be difficult to
get time off, but my hours are fairly flexible. Weekends and nights
are usually OK. If you have lots of money, please pay me a lot. If you
don't, I can work for almost nothing too. Food is appreciated when no
money is available.
I am best at close up/table magic. I am most experienced with
people drinking in bars, but have succesfully entertained all kinds of
people. Great success with kids (from 5 years old or so), students,
families, drunk people, homeless people in Britain, restaurant staff,
old people, random strangers in Taiwan, etc. I do magic mostly in
Japanese, but can speak English or Swedish too if the occasion calls
for it.
I also do small stage magic. I have performed in front of 80 people
or so with no problem. I have performed in front of 300 or 400 people
with some problems (the room was too dark so most people did not
see very much).
Reactions to my magic
Different people react in different ways to magic. Some common
reactions include screaming loudly and applauding. Some interesting
reactions I have had so far:
- Giving me money. 2000 yen after one short trick. The same man came
back a few minutes later and gave me another 2000 yen. Presumably he
liked that trick.
- Very common is buying me drinks, and not uncommon food. Drinks may
be an attempt to get me drunk and thus more easily see through any
tricks that may not be real magic.
- Almost in the food category above, I have also been given a pack
of breath mints.
- I once had extreme amounts of balloon animals and other balloon
art made for me. More than I could carry home.
- Screaming so loud that my ears hurt (mainly kids wanting to be the
next volunteer).
- Screaming so loud that the kitchen staff came out and said "Jonas,
you are overdoing it!" and then went back to cook again.
- I was punched in the face. Not slapped, punched. With a
fist. Twice. The woman liked magic but her head hurts when she does
not understand how a trick is done, she said. I did two simple tricks
for her and explained them, no problem. Later someone asked me to show
a coin trick, so I did. That one was difficult to understand, I
guess... luckily she was not very strong.
- Possibly the most surprising reaction so far was screaming in
pain. Evidently, this poor woman's neck locks up and hurts like crazy
a few times per year. Especially when surprised. In retrospect, doing
magic for her for 30 minutes may have been a human rights
violation. She said she had by then had about two years worth of her
neck pain just because of me. She liked the magic though.
- A cute girl asked me to marry her after seeing some magic
tricks. Presumably she was not serious, though.
- A very drunk and not so cute girl asked me to have sex, then and
there (middle of a park) after seeing my skillful fingers in action
(with cards). Also considering my fairly low health insurance
coverage, I declined the offer.
- I once made three women run screaming away from a parking lot
where I did a magic trick for them. They then wanted me to do the same
trick to the mother of one of them. She also screamed a lot and almost
had a heart attack. When she calmed down after a few minutes, she
happened to touch some fur on her own jacket and thought the same
thing had happened again and there was more screaming. Much to the
amusement of the daughter who got everything on video too.
- One girl asked me to do magic at her wedding. She explained that
this may be some time off, since she does not even have a boyfriend
yet, but she definetely wants me to do magic at the wedding whenever
that happens.
- One of the better things that sometimes happen is getting hired to
do more magic (for more money).
Videos
On account of being busy actually doing magic when I
perform, I do not have very many video clips or photos of
myself doing magic. Here is at least one clip of me doing
a rope magic trick at the Hokkaido University school
festival 2009.

I had just entered the university magic club and was
given a simple but nice beginner routine to perform.
